About Me
I’m Martin McCluskey, Scottish Labour MP for Inverclyde and Renfrewshire West.
I grew up in Greenock, where my family has always been part of our community – my mum worked as a nurse and midwife at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, my dad and uncle ran youth clubs in Renfrewshire, and my grandad was a union treasurer at Scott’s shipyard.
At 17, I spent six months in Ghana working with a charity, an experience that really opened my eyes and confirmed my commitment to public service. I was lucky to have a great education and ended up at the University of Oxford.
Before becoming an MP, I worked in the public sector, in international development with VSO UK, and later supporting charities and businesses. I was also elected as a councillor for Gourock, which gave me a real understanding of the challenges people face locally as well as the incredible strength of our communities.
For just over a year after being elected, I served as an Assistant Government Whip. In September 2025, I was appointed Minister for Energy Consumers in the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. It’s a role where I can make sure that people get a fair deal on their bills and that the benefits of cleaner, cheaper energy reach every home – something I’m passionate about for both our local area and the country.
I currently live in Gourock with my husband and our dog, and I’m proud every day to represent the place I’ve always called home.
